A WILDE PICNIC: A READING OF “THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST”

An Arts on the Grounds presentation

at the Clark Library

Sunday, August 25, 2019 @ 2pm

The Clark Library welcomes back Chalk Repertory Theatre, who brought us last summer’s Misalliance event “Tea with Shaw” and whose production of Lady Windermere’s Fan was presented in 2013–14, for another exciting outdoor reading. This year returning to Oscar Wilde with his classic, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” on the beautiful grounds of the Clark Library.

What is the value of a sincere and purposeful life? In 1895 that question may have had a considerably different set of answers, but for everyone involved in Wilde’s “Trivial Comedy for Serious People” the stakes high and hearts are on the line. Mistaken identities and societal hijinks abound in this farcical romp.
