Ruth McKee

Co-Artistic Producing Director

Ruth is a Founding Member of Chalk Rep. Her plays for the company include Stray, Full Disclosure, Hell Money, In Case of Emergency, "Skins and Bones" in Gallery Secrets and "Evolution" in FLASH Fest 2012. Her plays have also been produced and developed by Abingdon Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Alliance Theatre, Black Dahlia Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Cherry Lane Theatre (Mentor Project), Ensemble Studio Theatre, HB Playwrights Foundation, The Road Theatre, Six Figures Theatre Company, SPFNYC and Working Class Theatre, among others. As an educator she has taught playwriting at UCSD, Cypress College, Idyllwild Arts Academy, the California State Summer School of the Arts, and most recently spent a year as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Playwriting at Indiana University. BFA: NYU Tisch School of the Arts, MFA: UCSD.  

Peter Wylie

Jennifer Chang

Founding Member

Jennifer is a founding member of Chalk Rep. For the company, she has directed Lady Windermere’s Fan, The Debate Over Courtney O'Connell of Columbus, Nebraska,  "Prom Season" in Gallery Secrets and "The Sanctuary" in FLASH Fest 2010 . She has acted in FLASH Fest 2012Hell Money, Stray, and Three Sisters. Other directing credits include Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them for Artists at Play and Our American Story at the Japanese American National Museum in collaboration with East West Players. As an actor, she has worked with South Coast Rep, East West Players, Company of Angels, Mixed Blood Theatre, Fulton Opera House, and the National Asian American Theatre Company, among others, as well as TV and Commercials. Rebecca Bonebrake

Company Member

Rebecca is a Los Angeles based Lighting Designer for theatre, dance, events, and architectural projects.  She has lit a number of Chalk Rep productions, including Diet of WormsLady Windermere's Fan and Three Sisters.  A few of her other design credits include Washer/Dryer at East West Players, Don Juan and The Nutcracker with the San Diego Ballet, and The American Clock and Fortinbras at USC.  She has also designed the lighting for two of the past mazes at Halloween Horror Nights for Universal Studios Hollywood.  She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Lighting Design from the University of California, San Diego.  For more information, visit www.rebeccabonebrake.com.

Claudia de Vasco

Company Member

Claudia has worked with Chalk since it's founding as an actor, house manager, and in publicity and marketing, and now is excited to be a producing member. She earned her BFA from the Guthrie Theatre/ U of MN Actor Training Program and has worked as a performer in Minneapolis and all over California. Favorite roles are the Bride in Blood Wedding, Rosalind in Love's Labours Lost, and Olga in Neva. Screen credits include Jane the Virgin, Roman Israel Esq., and Gilmore Girls. Her career has also taken her on an eclectic journey of leadership, communications, & organizing. While producer of  the Zocalo Public Square Lecture Series, she hosted Zocalo Radio on LA's NPR affiliate, KPCC. She served for a couple of terms on the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council as Vice-Chair, Secretary, and the Chair of Arts & Culture. Claudia worked for a short time at LA City Hall as communications coordinator for Empower LA, as well as organizing campaigns such as Obama for America in 2008 and an LA City Council campaign in 2011. For a time she ran her own Creative Media Marketing Business, working with artists and food trucks on marketing campaigns. Claudia is also a professional dialect coach, having coached actors such as Antonio Banderas, Kit Harington, John Malkovich and Juliette Binoche.

 

Amy Ellenberger

Founding Member

Amy Ellenberger is a founding member of Chalk Rep and has performed with various theatre companies on the east and west coast including South Coast Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Chautauqua Theatre Company, Contemporary American Theatre Co. in Columbus, OH, and Six Figures Theatre Company in NYC.   In Los Angeles she has performed with the improv comedy group the Mutiny, starred in the web series Lost Angeles, and served as a co-host for the internet radio show, The Worst Show on the Web. She was recently featured in the Sega video game Rise of Nightmares and the short film The Callback Machine.  Amy also works with underserved youth as a teaching artist through The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company and Art in the Park.  She has a B.F.A from Otterbein College and an M.F.A. from UC San Diego.

Alexis Genya

Company Member

Alexis Genya was last seen as Marina in Chalk Rep’s Uncle Vanya. Upon earning an MFA from the University of Washington’s PATP, she was invited to Tulane University as a guest lecturer/artist. Some of her roles there included, Queen Margaret in Richard III, and Beatrice in View from the Bridge. In New York, she worked and performed with Obie award winner, David Greenspan in Principia and Dig a Ditch and Bury You Father, and in Los Angeles, she garnered an LA Weekly Acting Award for her work in Me and We, written for her and directed by Michael Patrick King. As a producer, she was invited twice to HBO’s Aspen Comedy Festival, bringing plays that were initiated at ‘arcade’, where she was Managing Producer. You can see her TV work on Unforgettable and Masters of Sex. She is a member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, WGAW and proud to be part of Chalk Rep. 

Larissa Kokernot

Founding Member

Larissa is a Founding Member of Chalk Rep. For the company she has directed Three Sisters, Family Planning (Ovation Awards for Best Play in an Intimate Theatre and for Director), Stray and Full Disclosure. Regional directing credits include work with Eye of the Storm Theatre in Minneapolis where she served as Artistic Associate for six years, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Ten Thousand Things, The Children’s Theatre, Guthrie Theater, The Playwright’s Center, California Repertory Theatre, Watts Village Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse and Oregon Shakespeare Festival where she was the 2007 Phil Killian Directing Fellow. Larissa received her B.A. in Theater from Brown University and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of California, San Diego. Larissa lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Karl Gajdusek, and their sons Kade and Nicholas.

Eric Reyes Loo

Company Member

Eric Reyes Loo is a Los Angeles-based playwright and television writer who has had his plays workshopped and presented at theatres including Moving Arts, Pacific Resident Theatre, Rogue Machine, The Inkwell (D.C.), Lark Play Development Center, Manhattan Theatre Source, George Street Playhouse and Rattlestick. Eric has been an active member of Chalk Rep’s writer’s group since its inception. He teaches playwriting and screenwriting at San Diego State and wrote on the upcoming web series Guidance for Awesomeness TV. Eric received a BA in English from Santa Clara University and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Halei Parker

Company Member

Halei is a freelance Costume Designer, Stylist, Costumer, and Wardrobe Assistant in Los Angeles, California. She specializes in costumes for theatre, dance, film, television, commercials, bands, and photographers. For Chalk, she has designed costumes for  Lady Windermere’s Fan and Gallery Secrets. She holds an MFA in Costume Design from top ranking University of California, San Diego and a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of North Texas. Her work has been seen on stages, screens, and magazines across the country and one day, around the world!

Teri Reeves

Company Member

TERI REEVES appeared as Natasha in Chalk's inaugural production of Three Sisters, produced and starred as May in Fool for Love, played Olivia Twelfth Night, the Duchess of Berwick in Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan and Evie in Slither,. She studied acting in the MFA program at UC San Diego and the BFA program at UC Santa Barbara. Some of her favorite roles were as Bride in Blood Wedding and Indra's Daughter in Dream Play. On television she was series regular Dr. Hallie Thomas in the first season of NBC's Chicago Fire as well as series regular KJ Jameson on Hulu's first originally scripted series Battleground. Other TV credits include guest and recurring roles on Scandal, Castle, NCIS, NCIS: LA, and General Hospital, and a recurring role on Once Upon a Time.

Brian Slaten

Company Member

Brian is a proud member of the Chalk Rep artistic circle. His Chalk credits include Harlan in Slither, Lord Darlington in Lady Windermere's Fan, Eddie in Fool for Love. He has worked at many regional theaters including the Kirk Douglas Theater, Mark Taper Forum, and South Coast Rep. Film and Television credits include Happy 40th, Uggs For Gaza, Rizzoli & Isles, Criminal Minds, Army Wives, Fringe, Law and Order SVU.  He has a BFA from University of Wyoming, and an MFA from UC San Diego.  He lives in and loves Culver City and has an amazing wife, named Yvonne.

Chad Smith

Company Member

Chad was first introduced to Chalk Rep as a set builder, where he helped build a rolling confessional for Diet of Worms.  Since then, Chad has tried to attend every Writer’s Group and every Open Circle.  He has served as a reader of new works and performed in the staged reading of David Myers’s play The World as It Should Be. Chad has worked in theatre in some capacity, or other, for 30 years.  After getting his BFA from NYU, he held the Artistic Director position of The Annex Theater Co. in NYC.  He was a Theater Jack for Blue Man Group for several years, worked as a Master Carpenter and Stage Hand for The Public Theater/NYSF.  As an actor, Chad performed in many Off-off Broadway shows, but none better than Twelfth Night, in which he played Sir Toby Belch and was cast opposite the soon to be love of his life, Valerie Manahan. Chad now works as a Technical Director for Center Theatre Group, performs when he can, and is thrilled to be a member of this amazing company of artists.

Hilary Ward

Founding Member

Hilary Ward is a founding member of Chalk Rep. Chalk Rep credits include Yelena in Uncle Vanya, Viola in Twelfth Night, Charlotte in the world-premiere of Mommune by Dorothy Fortenberry, and Flash Festival (Page Museum/La Brea Tarpits and 8th & Hope).  She earned her MFA in Acting from UC-San Diego.  During her time in New York, she worked at the Obie-Award-winning Classical Theatre of Harlem on two productions of Macbeth and was invited to the Bonn Biennale Festival in Germany to perform with the company.  Other credits: Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and Judith Shakespeare Company. Since moving to Los Angeles, she has been featured in many national commercial and print compaigns, including Tide, Buick and Honda. Recent television credits include Criminal Minds, Young & the Restless, Grey's Anatomyand Castle. She is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA.
