JEN BLOOM is co-founder of Santa Monica Rep who just completed a three month partnership on a staged play reading series with the Santa Monica Public Library. Jen directs large scale puppet shows based on a cross-disciplinary arts ed curriculum at the LA Natural History Museum. She spent the last year collaborating with the Jim Henson Creature Shop on a commission to build a life sized saber tooth cat puppet, which now snarls at children and their adults every weekend. Jen has done work on new plays with Chalk Rep, Rogue Machine Theatre Company, Theatricum Botanicum and the LA Playwrights Union. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, she worked in Providence and New York on site-specific and street theater projects. Her work as an actor and director has been seen at Trinity Repertory Summer Shakespeare, Perishable Theatre, the Elemental Theatre, Second Story Theatre, The Gamm, Brown University, Living Literature and a number of non-theater public venues, backyards, and holes-in-walls. Jen served on the theater faculty at Providence College and Rhode Island College for five years, and in outdoor and experiential education at WOLF and Brandeis-Bardin here on the West Coast. She has an MFA in Acting and Directing from Trinity Repertory Conservatory, completed Director’s Lab West in 2010, and is a registered yoga teacher from the Nosara Yoga institute of Costa Rica.
